Quur (2016)

School Project  |  Supinfogame  |  Unity  |  PC

Project Description

Quur is a 3D Action-adventure game that invites players to explore and discover a world relying on a unique resource called Ink. This resource constitutes the life and soul of every living being. Quur’s world is comprised of two distinct environments. One of these environments, the Forest, depends on an Ink river to nourish its flora and fauna. The other, the White World, absorbs Ink for sustenance. The player incarnates a Guardian, a being created by the Forest. He’s the only being capable of recovering and using Ink in many different ways. The Guardians' mission is to go to the mountain containing the source of the Ink River to sacrifice themselves and give their Ink back to the Forest.
During their journey, players encounter various creatures standing in their way. If players go beyond their first instincts and try to understand them, then they can distract or befriend them instead of killing them. Using violence results in the environment’s loss of color and the deterioration of sounds and music, while avoiding to do so preserves them. The game doesn’t have any words, it is up to the player to discover the world’s rules and choose the way they want to play: either by adapting their behavior in accordance with the environment or by going against it.
Quur’s Gameplay mixes Action-adventure with Beat'em-up games. The game’s most important feature is Ink: the Guardian’s strength and skills directly correlate with the amount of Ink that gravitates around him. Ink also represents life, so losing all Ink results in death. Ink can be recovered through various means, such as by collecting it from the environment or by killing creatures and recovering it from them.
The game’s main features are a combo-based combat, resource-based gameplay, unique art direction inspired by ink paintings and an inspiring soundtrack that adapt to the approach players choose and a different take on violence in video games.
Quur is a student project to be released in July 2016.
